H=46 1/2, W=52 5/8, D=19 3/4
An Antique French Plate Rack (Credence) on Feet from the Lorraine Region of France-European Oak – Good Antique Condition – Rubs to wood commensurate with age – Mid to Late 1700’s.
This rare antique French oak hand made plate rack (Credence), originally done by a cabinetmaker in the Lorraine Region of France, would have been placed upon a buffet. The buffets , vaisseliers,(vessel holder) deux corps and credences made in the Lorraine Region are a style unto their own and easily identifiable because of this. The cornice has carved out demilunes to the front and sides with a simple stepped out molding on the top. There are three shelves, two with plate rails of different ornamentation. The ornamentation has wooden cutouts in panels of stars, hearts and a stylized column. The third shelf down extends out further for larger items and has ornamentation on the front of demilune cutouts for the plate rail. Beneath this, is a half enclosed cutout panel for items containing food that needs to be kept sheltered or warm. All this rests upon stylized elongated side panel feet.
