Antique Bronze Dore Mantel Clock |
Raingo Freres Paris France 1800s Raingo Fres. or Freres began business in the early 1800’s, manufacturing all types of decorative clocks. They expanded into decorative art bronzes and furnishings in addition to patents on their orreries, which were mechanical devices illustrating the relative positions and motions of the planets and moons in the solar system in a heliocentric model. Their clients included such notables as the Duc de Chartres and the Emperor and Empress. La Maison Raingo Freres participated in the Universal Exhibitions of 1867, 1878, and 1889 receiving medals in all including a Gold Medal in 1889. This magnificent bronze dore clock in the Rococo style features ornamentation of c and s-scrolls and acanthus leaves all modeled with grand flourishes. Pendants of foliate and floral décor hang loosely from rocaille scrolls surrounding the face and from the bottom acanthus leaf featuring a stylized fleur de lys. Two putti flank the sides decorating the acanthus leaf feet. An eagle lands upon the uppermost rocaille scroll of the clock while peering downwards. The circular clock face has been done in bronze dore with enameled Roman numerals. The back of the clock has the circular stamp of Raingo Freres Paris under the bell. The number 1927 is on the plate. This beautifully designed and modeled antique bronze dore Raingo Freres clock will be a wonderful addition to any home or collection. Condition: Minor separation to bottom leaf of stylized fleur de lys; minor rubs to back of clock; clock is in very good working condition. |
