Antique French Epergne with Blown Glass Vase-Bronze Dore

H=15 1/2

An Antique French Bronze Dore Epergne with Swirled Glass Vase – Very Good Condition – Late 1800’s or earlier

This exquisite antique French Epergne has very fine chasing to the bronze dore.  We found a faint “F” underneath the base plate on the interior of the hollow base.  Due to the fine and detailed work of the bronze,  it appears to have been done in the lost wax technique;  however, we are not appraisers.

The ornamentation is that of a French mother pelican and her baby in the marshes fishing for food.  The mother has a clump of leaves in her bill and the baby has “dinner” in its mouth.   There is a ladybug, a tiny worm, and a few spiders throughout very finely chiseled, veined leaves and foliage.  There are three cattails in water leaves at the base of the glass vase. The swirled glass vase resembles a Baccarat pattern.  Since it is attached to the bronze dore, we are unable to see a mark.  The more you study this exceptional epergne, the more you see.  It is truly for the discerning antique lover of fine French bronziers.
