Leading France to several important victories during The Hundred Years War, Joan of Arc is considered the national heroine of France. In the statue above, she is depicted raising her sword triumphantly toward the heavens which she claimed guided her. 600 years later, she remains a significant figure in Western culture. Spelter is a zinc alloy that is much lighter than bronze and was often used in the 19th century.
