Pair of Plaster Decorative Plates from France Late 1800s
*Each plate has a small loop on the back for hanging*
Hand Painted, Bas Relief Plaster Plates of Interior Wine Cellar Scenes- Good Antique Condition Minor chip and restored cracks to frame of one plate.
One interior scene is of a woman serving wine from a pitcher to a gentleman. He has a wine glass in one hand, while his other hand is placed over hers on the bench. The interior of the room features a wicker encased wine bottle on the floor in front of them. Behind them are more wine bottles on the floor and also on a wall bracket with a wine funnel hanging from it. Two oak wine barrels on stands are on either side of the room. The floors are stone and the walls are brick. There is a narrow stairway leading up to a curved plank door.
The other plate features a monastery wine cellar with a monk and another gentleman seated at a large wine barrel. The floors are stone and the walls are brick. There is a curved alcove in which a massive wine barrel on a highly carved base rests. Another monk ascends the stairs with a highly carved railing behind them. More wine barrels are to the left.
