This antique French walnut wood pannetiere was originally used for storing freshly baked French bread. They were often hung or placed over a French “maie” (doughbin),  which held the grain for making the flour. (We have two maie for sale which you may view on our website if you are interested.)

This pannetiere has musical trophy ornamentation of a lyre and harp with scrolling floral and foliate ornamentation to either side.  The door has ornamentation of a single stemmed flower in a lattice basket.  There are classic spindles and finials throughout the body of the pannetiere.

Today, these pieces can be used to display lovely accessories or plants or left as is atop a piece of furniture or hung on the wall.
