This magnificent Tiffany & Co. antique silver and bronze bust of an Amazon warrior is stamped Tiffany & Co. on the back of the base and signed by the French artist, Lalouette on the back of the bust.  In Classical antiquity and Greek mythology, the Amazons are a nation of all-female warriors.  One of the queens of the Amazons is Penthesilea, who participated in the Trojan War.  History suggests “Amazons” has become a term for women warriors in general.
We have not determined that this Lalouette bust for Tiffany & Co. is Penthesilea, but she is definitely an Amazon Warrior at war. Lalouette has captured a fierce demeanor in the woman’s countenance, as well as in the ornamentation of her armored clothing.   She wears a plumed silver and bronze helmet and a bronze and silver breast plate with fish scale ornamentation. Intertwining snakes on the breast plate anchor an animal’s pelt around her back with a clawed foot falling over her left shoulder.  Her face portrays forceful energy, with a furrowed brow, intense eyes and her mouth opened as if drawing in air for instant powerful action. This is a stunning bust suitable for any collector. 

Condition:  Tarnish and minor rubs; old silver polish in areas of deep relief.
