Painted Antique Door from Corsica-1800s |
This antique door from Corsica has book matched diagonal boards on its central panel and is framed by vertical and horizontal stiles and rails. The door has been painted a grey/blue color at some point in its history, so it may be difficult to see the wonderful iron nailhead ornamentation; however, there are four per diagonal board in most cases. The central raised stepped out diamond shape has four iron nailheads. The back of the door has vertical wooden planks and two three-quarter cast iron straps all painted the same as the front. There are two wooden cross planks that have been added for strength above and below the iron straps. A hand forged iron lever style handle has been mounted on the front side and, on the back side, there is a latch style handle that is attached to the lock plate. The lock has been deactivated; however, a locksmith familiar with antique locks could most likely repair this. Condition: Rubs to paint and wood; rusting to iron in areas |
