ITALY, Circa 1850

Carved from one solid piece of wood, this wonderful antique Italian plaque depicts two polychromed putti playing in elaborate flourishes of scrolled acanthus leaves and flowers.  They are supporting a large acanthus leaf with flowers with one arm overhead and the hand holds the end of the scrolled drape they have surrounding them.   The polychromed chipped paint colors are shades of tan, grey/blues, burnt reds, light reds, golds and browns. 

Italian polychromed pieces are always in demand and this one is extremely exceptional. Condition:  Chipping of paints,  slight age cracks to wood
