18th Century Column Capital from France |
This beautiful antique French column capital was hand carved from a single trunk of wood and is from the 1700’s or earlier. There are faint traces of old polychrome colors of pale green, red, and orange in the recesses of the ornamentation. The four curved and ornamented panels depictrs the Fleur -de-Lis centered with an open flower, acanthus leaves, and small and large beading. This capital can stand on its own as a piece of artwork, but could also be used as a pedestal for another accessory. Condition: Old nicks, rubs and gouges all commensurate with age. |
