Antique French Normandy Deux Corps/Bibliotheque
An Antique French Normandy Deux Corps/Bibliotheque with Glass Frontage – European Oak – Good Antique Condition – Minor rubs to wood, and a small crack in side panel-Late 1700’s
This magnificent antique French narrow deux corps from the Lorraine Region was, most likely, once part of an L-shaped bibliotheque in a boiseried (wooden paneled) room. This piece would have been right before the curved corner section to the “L”. European Oak was used for the finest solid wood furniture during the 1700’s , while walnut wood was used for the moveable pieces.
The cabinetmakers of the Normany Region in France were considered to be some of the finest in France. Their carving was highly detailed and often with very deep relief. Ornamentation of Regence, Louis XV and XVI periods was used almost exclusively. This deux corp’s detailed hand carved ornamentation includes gadrooned leaves, strigillation, floral baskets with marguerites, reed and ribbon and more. This piece has beautiful pewter hardware. Each lock has a key, and there is a drawer that opens.
This rare piece could have many uses in any room.
