Early 19th Century French Louis XV Style Bonnetiere |
European Oak – Good Antique Condition Commensurate with Age –Old Restorations; Rubs, Nicks and Age Separations to Wood; Glass is a replacement – Circa 1800 The French name of a narrow one door armoire, Bonnetiere, came from Normandie. They were originally used for storing ladies’ hats. During the nineteenth century (1800-1900) the Louis XV style of ornamentation was the most popular. This Louis XV style bonnetier has been constructed with European Oak. It has a projecting flat top cornice, asymmetrical moldings and hand carved ornamentation of florets, shells and foliage, all typical of the Louis XV style of ornamentation. The inside has been upholstered as was often the solution to cover the unfinished interiors of country pieces. This piece has many uses in today’s home due to its smaller size. |
