Antique French Oak Hunt Cabinet (Buffet De Chasse)

An Antique French Louis XIII Style Hunting Deux Corps of Stripped European Oak;  Age:  1800’s

This deux corps has been stripped at some point in its history.  This style of deux corps (two parts) has a narrower depth on the upper part than the lower part, with two drawers between.  It has ornamentation in the style of Louis XIII, including foliate borders, scrolling foliate vines of oak leaves, and turned and fluted columns.  There are trophy panels of a rabbit, a pheasant, and fish suspended from knotted ribbons on the top three doors’ panels.  There are decorative raised drop moldings of fruit and acanthus leaves between each door.  On the lower two doors’ panels, there is a hanging basket of grapes suspended from a knotted ribbon and a wine barrel to the side surrounded by grape leaves. The second door depicts another basket of mixed fruit surrounded by wheat, a platter and more leaves hanging from knotted ribbons.   The handles are animals mirroring the central animal on the frieze, typical of the hunt motif.

This deux corps can be used anywhere extra storage is needed.

Condition:  Previous restorations, rubs, nicks, and age separations consistent with age.
