The Largest of 7 Antique French Panel Paintings from a Dining Room of Boiserie (French wooden paneled room) in the Louis XV Style of Genre Painting- Oil on Canvas- Very Good Antique Condition – Minor losses to paint – Finding a group of 7 antique French panel paintings from the same room is extremely rare. All paintings have trompe l’oeile borders in the rococo style. They are sold in separate quantities as designated or as a complete set.
This painting is the largest of the group. The category of Genre Painting became popular during the 18th C. after Louis XIV. It depicted scenes of everyday life, imagined, real or romantic, in indoor or outdoor settings. This scene depicts an outdoor Roman ruin setting with people enjoying life around a Roman pool. The trompe l’oeile border mimics a frame ornamented with florets and rocaille shells.
This massive French panel painting is for the discerning lover of antique French genre paintings.
