Walnut Wood Frames, Upholstered with a Machine Made Scenic Tapestry, Late 1800’s, Frames are Early 1800’s-  Good Antique Condition – Restoration to frames.
These magnificent armchairs, in the style of Louis XIV, are upholstered with a  scenic machine made tapestry in pale greens, pale pinks, pale yellows, very pale blues, and tans over horse hair stuffing, and secured with striated medallion nail heads. Bullion trim in the same colors attached throughout.

The tapestry scene’s story line begins on the seats .  A young woman’s flower basket has been left in a pastoral setting with lambs and sheep enjoying the day.  In the background is an inlet of water with chateaux in the hills behind it.  On the backs of the chairs, the young woman is being greeted by a young man bearing a gift of a dove in a wooden cage. His dog is eagerly awaiting the unveiling.  These  delightful scenes will bring a smile to any admirer. The intricate details of the hand carvings indicate these chairs were made for a person of means. The carvings of the legs are 4 sided and the same for the stretchers.
