Antique Louis XV Style Parcel Gilt Needlepoint Chairs
Fauteuil de Cabriolet (Armchairs with open arms )– Very Good Condition –chipping to gilding – Circa 1900
These antique French armchairs are identified as Fauteuil de Cabriolet armchairs. They feature a coved back with in-curving side rails and open arms. They have a parcel gilt finish and the upholstery is hand done needlepoint in a Louis XV Aubusson pattern. The ornamentation on the frame is florets, scrolling foliage, an acanthus leaves. The legs are cabriole with scroll feet. The needlepoint has a medium blue border with a center medallion of a bouquet of flowers in greens, roses , golds and blues tied with a blue ribbon on a cream colored field. It is surrounded by a cartouche with the same colorations featuring shells, acanthus leaves, fleuron, and c and s-scrolls.
Fauteuil de Cabriolet French chairs were considered to be very comfortable , easily moved and ideal for conversation .
