Magnificent Pair of Antique French Louis XIV Tapestry Armchairs |
This magnificent pair of antique French chairs is in the Louis XIV style. The tapestries are from the late 1600’s or older and were woven for chairs—they are not fragments of a large tapestry. The hand carved walnut wood frames are from the latter half of the 1800’s. The tapestry scenes appear to be garden scenes with urns holding flowers, a wall fountain with a lion’s head, balustrades, stone columns, drapery swags and putti. Due to their age being in the 1600’s, there is some fading to details. The walnut wood frames are hand carved with ornamentation of acanthus leaves, gadrooned lobes and c-scrolls. This regal pair of antique French chairs with 17th C. chair tapestries will enhance any room in which they are placed. Condition: Minor old restorations to tapestries and minor separations on tapestry seats all consistent with age; minor rubs to wood, muslin chair backing removed at some point in its history. |
