18th Century Louis XV Style Walnut Wood French Buffet |
This magnificent French buffet was made during the period of Louis XV in French walnut wood. Walnut wood was so prized by Louis XV that he banned the export of it during a period of his reign. This piece has asymmetrical motifs of rocaille shells, scalloped shells, acanthus leaves, scrolling floral and foliate vines, and stylized egg and dart. All of this is on two full field frontal doors, two drawers, and a shaped apron. The side panels have recessed deep moldings having central arches. The drawer hardware has been replaced at some point in its history. This period Louis XV buffet will be an asset to any area of the home. Condition: Loss of wood in some areas, age separations, old wood worm loss, restoration to top of one board. |
