An Antique French, Louis XIII Style Hunting Buffet- Stripped European Oak – Late 1800’s- Condition: Old restorations, minor losses of wood on some moldings, age separations. Faux keyholes and drawers.
This interesting antique French hunting buffet is in the Louis XIII style and has been stripped at some point in its history. The two front doors have medallion panels featuring animals of the hunt—the animal on the left is open to your interpretation, a really large fox or a long haired dog going for some fruit. The retriever on the right side is attempting to flush out a bird. Motifs of cattails, berries /grapes and leaves with trees in the distance surrounding a farmhouse add to the scenes. Gadrooned foliate ornamentation surrounds the top and bottom moldings. The faux drawer frontages are a part of the cabinet doors which are opened by pushing a lever to the top left of the faux keyhole revealing a divided interior shelf. There are shaped balusters on either side of the front doors topped with rectangular foliate motifs.
This is a very unique antique French hunt buffet that will complement any area of the home.
