An Antique French Louis XV Period, Three Drawer Bombe Commode from France – European Fruitwood -Good Antique Condition – One handle missing, old restorations to feet and drawers- rubs to wood commensurate with age - C. 1750.
This rare and magnificent antique French three door commode of fruitwood is from the Louis XV period. The drawer fronts have raised rectangular panels with indented, molded, and shaped s- forms on either end of the drawers. These are separated in the middle by an escutcheon plate surrounded by a corresponding indented, molded and shaped facing s- form. Each drawer thickness has been hand planed in varying thicknesses to accomodate the s- shaped bombe frontage of the commode. The hand made dove tails on either side of the drawers show the varying thickness per drawer.
Its apron shows a faint center image of the form surrounding the escutcheon plates. The rubbed feet are escargot. The elegant soft s-shapes of the sides give this commode a versatility in its usage. It could be used as an entry piece or in a bedroom.
