A Period French Louis XV Three Drawer Commode of Walnut Wood– Bronze Hardware –Good Antique Condition- Old Restorations –- Rubs to wood commensurate with age – No Keys– Mid to Late 1700’s

This rare, Period Louis XV, three drawer commode has been hand carved and constructed with solid French walnut wood. The drawer bottoms and sides are of European Oak.  It has a rectangular top with a restrained shaped front over a recessed, conforming frieze and three drawers with intervening transverse rails.   There are three drawers with six bronze handles and three escutcheon plates.   The drawer fronts have two shaped, raised front panels with asymmetrical, stylized c-scrolls, flowers and acanthus leaf motifs to the outside, and a c-scroll, vase shaped center surrounded by scrolling vines.   The bronze escutcheon plate is a stylized griffin atop an asymmetrical vase of flowers and the bronze handles are elongated s-scroll leaves with florets and leaves attaching each side to the drawer front.  There is a plain shaped apron.  The molded, round edges have motifs of c-scroll acanthus leaves and margent. The side panels have two indented, molded plain panels.  All this rests upon two front scrolled feet with an oval medallion at the knee, and two block feet to the back.

Period Louis XV commodes are rare and difficult to find due to the fact that most families keep them.  This commode is a nice find for the collector and purveyor of French antiques.
