18th Century Walnut Commode

A Period French Louis XV Lyonnaise, Three Drawer Commode of Walnut Wood–Nicely Cast Bronze Hardware –Age:  Mid to Late 1700’s
This commode has a rectangular top with a restrained shaped front over a recessed, conforming frieze and three drawers with intervening transverse rails.   They have six cast bronze handles depicting beautifully gadrooned acanthus leaves, other tiny, foliate and floral forms, and a stylized central shell.   The central escutcheon plates are in the forms of cornucopia rising to either side of the keyhole holding pomegranates and foliation.  They are tied with ribbons at their base .   At the top of the keyhole there is a basket of fruit.   The drawer fronts have two shaped, raised front panels with asymmetrical, stylized c-scrolls, flowers and acanthus leaf motifs to the sides.  The central escutcheons are surrounded by a raised heart shape molding with scrolling acanthus leaves around it.  There is a plain shaped apron and the molded, round side edges have been left plain.  There are two indented rectangular side panels on either side.  All this rests upon two front two stylized ogee feet and two back block feet.
Period Louis XV commodes are rare and difficult to find due to the fact that most families keep them.  This commode is a nice find for the collector and purveyor of French antiques.

Condition: Previous restorations, age separations to wood, nicks and rubs all commensurate with age.
