Antique Italian Giltwood Putti Console with Marble Top

This splendid example of Italian carving depicts putti playing in a garden of flowers and acanthus leaves. The ornamentation is exaggerated acanthus leaves, c-scrolls, volutes, and stylized shells. There is red bole beneath the parcel gilding, and the back (hollow) has been painted a deep red at one point in its history. We do not think the marble is original to the piece. Circa 1900. Good Antique Condition.

The piece could be used not only as a console, but also for mounting a sink in a powder bath
