Rustic French Oak Monastery Table
SOLD
An Antique Rustic French Monastery Table – European Oak – Circa 1900- Good Antique Condition
This rustic monastery table was made from European Oak. European Oak was used on the finest pieces of furniture starting in medieval times, as the patina and grain were so beautiful. It is different from American Oak in its grain and sheen when polished. The top is very thick with 2 plank construction. The solid stepped supports (in and out) rest upon a cyma shaped plank foot. The stretcher runs through the supports, notched with a peg on either end. Used for dining in monasteries in their history, these tables were sturdy, lasting for years. Their narrow long form accomodated many people. Now, they are used as library tables, desks , dining tables, kitchen tables and much more. They are very versatile.
