Louis XIV Style Whitewashed Writing Table with Center Drawer |
This French writing table from the late 1800s is in the Louis XIV style and has been painted with a grayish/white wash at some point in its history, allowing some of the wood grain to show through. The top has canted corners and demilune molding. The front apron contains a drawer with scrolling rinceau while the sides have incised serpentine bands with a stiff leaf motif in between. There are four round baluster legs with stylized x-stretchers on bun feet. A toupee or center finial with lunette and serpentine band motif rests on a central bun foot. Besides its use as a writing table, it can also be used as a side or occasional table at the end of a sofa, between two chairs or beside the bed. Condition: Minor nicks and rubs to wood and paint. |
