Antique Gothic Trunk from France-Circa 1700
This rectangular shaped antique French oak trunk has decorative gothic ornamentation of arches, rosettes and circles of elongated lobes to its front panel. The side panels are free of decoration and the back and interior is unfinished wood, but waxed over the years. The entire trunk has a rich patina.
The wrought iron hardware appears to be original to the piece. The lid has iron straps to its interior affixing the lid to the body. The key plate has an iron latch which fits into a slot as well as a place for a key, which is missing.
Oak with Wrought Iron Hardware – Circa 1700 - Good Antique Condition – Feet and apron added at a later date. Cracks and pitting to wood as would be expected for its age – staining to underside of top. No Key.
This small trunk is a perfect size-it could be used as an end table, a storage trunk or stand on its own as a decorative piece of furniture.
