Antique French Renaissance Style Trunk for Linens and Valuables-Oak Late 1700’s

Domed Lid and Iron Strapping – European Oak – Good Antique Condition commensurate with age.

This magnificent antique wooden French trunk with domed lid and iron hardware has added ornamentation on the bottom front  of three framed rectangular panels.  The decorative molding surrounding the panels continues around to either side.  Iron handles and decorative scrollwork straps adorn the side top, front and back.

These trunks served dual purposes:  as a piece used for transporting their goods between homes and as furniture in their homes .  The interior contains a lidded wooden box for valuables and storage space for linens or other items.  This type of trunk would have been used by the aristocracy.
