An Antique French Medieval Style Large Trunk –Circa 1700–European Oak and Elm–Iron Hardware and iron strapping to interior - Good Antique Condition commensurate with age – Restorations – some replacement of wood- No Key
The stately antique French trunk in the Medieval style commands a presence with its size and simplicity. It dates from the late 1700’s or earlier. There are four vertical, raised and beveled, rectangular front panels incised with an elongated lozenge pattern and two plain horizontal, raised and beveled panels to either side of the trunk. The back has four raised and beveled panels, but has been left unfinished. The interior has a “valuables” box on the top right and iron strapping holding the top to the base. The trunk rests upon four block feet.
This trunk could be used as a buffet, or at the foot of a bed for linen and blanket storage, or for a television, either putting a lift inside or leaving the television on the top. It could also be used behind a sofa, accessorized with lamps or other decorative pieces.
