Large Pair of Antique French Cornucopia Sconces |
These stunning and very large antique French sconces in the form of cornucopia with fruit have been hand carved from European Oak. The chipped cream painted finish that has been added at some point in their history. The symbolism surrounding cornucopia dates from ancient Greece and generally signifies abundance and prosperity. The twist turned cornucopia feature a raised molding of a ribbed motif atop a thick circle of various fruit. A large acanthus leaf separates the two cornucopia which have been bound together with ribbons. To either side of the leaf are two acanthus leaf decorated horns. The back plate is circular with more acanthus leaf motifs. These antique French cornucopia sconces will make wonderful accessories for any wall. They have been U. S. electrified.
