17th Century French Candlestick |
This late 1600’s French parcel giltwood candlestick is in the Louis XIV style. Throughout its years, a good portion of the gilding has worn off (called parcel gilt) as well as some of the relief of the ornamentation, giving it the highly desired patina that only 300 years of use can have. It has been decorated with ornamentation of the time period. There has been a hole drilled through it for electrifying it into a lamp; however, it would also be beautiful with just a thick candle upon the top once again. French giltwood candlesticks of this age are rare and highly sought after. Condition: Losses of gilding, minor ornamentation missing, rubs and knicks. |
