This beautiful, large fireback is from Dijon, France in the early 1800s. This antique French fireback is from Dijon and has raised ornamentation of a Royal Coat of Arms. There is the Crown atop a field of triple fleur-de-lys flanked by scrolling rinceau and c and s-scrolls. There are notched corners with single fleur-de-lys inside.Originally, firebacks were used in fireplaces to radiate heat into the room. Now, in addition to use in fireplaces, they can also be used as ornamentation on stone walls, above stoves, or as an accessory.

Condition: Rusting to areas of the iron and border on bottom has been worn
