Antique French Giltwood  and Silver Leafed Framed Oil Painting on Canvas  of a Pointer investigating a Hedgehog or Porcupine–Signed Sophie Pir, French, (1858-1936) Very Good Condition – Minor restoration to painting done in its past.  Frame has some minor rubs to gilding and silver leaf -1st Quarter  1900’s.
This endearing French painting of a pointer investigating either a hedgehog or porcupine will bring a smile to anyone’s face.  It is an interplay of curiosity between the two in a Spring forest, with fresh,  light green foliage mingled with darker greens.  You can just imagine the pointer flying through the forest on a mission and losing all concentration upon seeing the little hedgehog. 
Sophie Pir was known for her paintings of dogs and cats, as well as floral and landscape paintings.  Her most recent auction prices range from $7,400.00 to $7,800.00.  The giltwood and sliver leafed frame has ornamentation of stylized acanthus leaf on patterned ground, fleur de lis, and scrolling vines and florals.
