Rare 17th C. French Scenic Silk Tapestry with Needlepoint Border Chair Back Panel |
Good Antique Condition Commensurate with Age – Minor separations between some rows– Late 1600’s This magnificent 17th C. French silk tapestry with needlepoint border probably once graced a French chair back . The central scene depicts a seated woman and a man assisting her beneath a garlanded tree. To the top left side is an angel on clouds carrying a basket with fruit, and to the top right is an angel on clouds carrying a cornucopia. At the right forefront is a cherub gently patting a lioness. This scene is bordered by needlepoint patterns of c-scroll acanthus leaves, florets, banding , and fleur-de-lys. Suitable for a host or hostess chair back, this magnificent 17th C. tapestry and needlepoint chair panel will be a collector’s piece.
