This stunning tapestry was actually part of a much larger tapestry. The fragment was slightly restored, a border was added, and a backing was done in the 1990s.

This magnificent large French tapestry depicts a figural, mythological hunting scene.  In the background are castles, a body of flowing water with a boat passing by.  People are walking with their donkey over a stone bridge, waving to the oarsman.  In the forefront is a huntress on horseback, perhaps Diana, aiming her bow and arrow at a lion behind her.  Another hunter to the left is also aiming his spear at the lion, while a warrior watches on in the background.  There are beautifully executed architectural features throughout this exceptional hand woven tapestry. Filled with symbolism, much is left to the imagination in this mythological, figural scene.

Condition:  The fragment was slightly restored, a border was added, and a backing was done in the 1990s.  There are areas of small moth holes.
