Antique French Oil Painting- Hunting Dogs Circa 1880 |
An Antique French Oil Painting on Canvas of Hunting Dogs Flushing Pheasants – Unframed, Signed on lower left This painting has never been stretched or framed. The two hunting dogs are stalking pheasants in the foliage ahead of them. Overhead, more of them fly off into the distance. The background features rolling hills and trees, with a church on a hill in the distance. The sky is overcast with clouds and gives one the impression it is early winter. The painter signed this painting and wrote "D'Apres Desportes", which means in the manner of the famous French artist Alexander-Francois Desportes. Desportes specialized in outdoor animal scenes, especially dogs. This antique French hunting painting could easily be restored and framed. It would have a commanding presence on any wall.
