Oil on Canvas Painting from a French Bar-1940’s-“Le P'tit QuinQuin” |
Le P’tit QuinQuin is a lullaby written in 1853 in the Chti'mi language. Chti'mi is related to French and was spoken in the Northern parts of France and parts of Belgium. This song marked the revival of the language and became the official marching song of Northern soldiers during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. Today, it is considered an unofficial song of Lilles and the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region. This is one of 2 paintings that we have, depciting famous French songs, done in the mid 1900’s. They were recovered from a bar in Brittany. Rubs and flaking in certain areas. A skilled artist can easily touch this up if desired. |
