A Pair of Theater Décor Panels-France 1930s

A Pair of French Framed Theater Panels –Acrylic on Canvas, Painted Wooden Inner Moldings, Relief Ornamentation is Painted Papier Mache – Rubs to Paintings, Papier Mache in Areas
From Provence – C. 1930

These would have been used as scenic backdrops for a play.  The framed paintings also have an interior frame depicting ornamentation of the Regence Period.
The top and portions of the framing are done in painted and carved papier machier, while the rest is painted on canvas with gilt highlights.  One scene is of a valley with a stream running beneath a bridge and a chateau atop the distant mountain. The other scene is a great perspective view of an urn on a tree lined path of a forest.

These French theater panels would give a feeling of distance to any wall they are placed upon.
