Originally part of a series of tapestries from Flemish weaver Michel Wauters, depicting the Seven Liberal Arts.  This massive tapestry (well over eight feet tall and 17 feet wide) from circa 1670 has maintained its glamorous hues, as noticed by garments of various shades of blue and red.  Neoclassical themed, the scene illustrates a reading lesson under the guidance of the Roman goddess, Minerva (Athena in Greek mythology), who was a sponsor to the arts.

CONDITION: Very good antique condition.  Commensurate age separations, but the integrity of the tapestry is excellent, as are the colors of the threads.  Old restoration work to the verso, including the addition of velcro strips.
