This giltwood mirror from Provence is a beautiful example of a French mirror from the 1700s. The rectangular glass is surrounded by a border of dentil, with an arabesque of scrolls and leaves over a lozenge ground the gives the frame added life. At the top is a large crest with additional arabesque and lozenge ground, but also carved with a flowering basket in relief and two dolphins on the side.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Evidence of old gilt touchups. Light presence of red bole and very light loss of silvering to glass, both of which are desired traits. Minor nicks, age separations, and losses. Not rigged for hanging.
