Based on the allegory associated with Christian theology, this French parcloses mirror from the 1700s is topped by a wonderful crest depicting the pelican in her piety. The giltwood frame also features flowering margents, pattern grounds of fluting and lozenges, and arabesques of scrolls and foliage.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Rigged for hanging. Loss of silvering to glass (this is typically desired), mainly to the pocket mirrors. Very light scratches to main mirror with one small superficial crack to a pocket mirror. Minor giltwood separations with losses, revealing traces of red bole, which is also highly sought after. The margents that flank the birds have some movement, but they are secure.
