Cast iron book presses, such as this French one mounted to a wooden stand, were used to bind books in the 1800s. The iron is embellished with copper-hued molding and a golden brass ball finial above the baluster-form handle. The leggy stand has a shelf roughly 2 1/2 inches from the floor, as well as a pull-out drawer near the top.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. The press is bolted to the stand (one screw is missing). Light rubs and faded elements to the press. Minor nicks, scratches, and age separations to wood stand.
