Description

Hand-carved in the 1800s in the style of Louis XIV, this wooden candlestick has been repurposed into a wonderful table lamp with electrification for American homes. The motifs are quite ornate, with the highlight being the tripod base of monopodial lion paw feet beneath leafy volutes. Imbricated discs embellish the sides of the volutes, flanking the concave side with a foliate margent. The concavity extends to the tripartite abacus of the base, which is adorned with lobed edges. An undulating column consisting of projections of gadroon, beading, and leaf cups rises up to a lobed bobeche atop curled leaves. Topped by a beige textile shade, the overall height is over 29 inches, making the candlestick lamp ideal for a buffet or console, which would place the carvings at eye level.

CONDITION: Good antique condition. Originally a 19th-century candlestick, repurposed into a table lamp. Minor losses and light age separations to the wood, with an old restoration. The electrification has transitioned for use in American homes.
