A tranquil scene of rural France, painted in the 1900s and signed by the artist “A. Derians”. Derians was a specialist in animal scenes in the taste of the Barbizon School. His paintings were principally of herds of sheep and cows, in this case a large flock of sheep by a small stream. The shepherd stands in the middle of his charges, while a herd dog looks on patiently.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Slight indentation to canvas with subtle creasing as a result of being pulled on stretcher. Rigged for hanging. Very light losses to the gilt frame. Signed “A. Derians” in the lower left.
