A fascinating table box from Southern India, dating to the 1800s. The pyramid-shaped lid with a thin iron handle opens to reveal two compartments of unequal sizes. The lid, all four sides, and even the underside are embellished with functional iron straps of various shapes and sizes.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Commensurate interior buildup. Minor age separations and very light nicks to wood. Buildup to iron, resulting in losses to the finish, with some small missing sections. No key and hasp no longer functioning. Evidence of old work, with some more recent restoration.
