This would have been carved from a giant single calcareous stone block of by a local stone mason. It is from a bygone era (at least 150 years ago) when the laundering was done by hand, and this trough was specifically designed for this purpose. Scrubbing was performed on the angled slope, with water draining away. Now of course it will make a striking garden fountain or planter in a traditional or contemporary space.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Commensurate buildup. Fleabites with minor nicks and losses. An age separation is visible on the side wall. Drain hole in back wall.
