A stunning example of a period Louis XIII trunk, dated by the arrangement of studs “1632” on the facade. The French trunk is adorned with hand-carved motifs of linenfold, birds, flowers, and niches. The most prominent carvings are four busts of famous French leaders (Cardinal Richelieu, Kings Philippe IV, Henri IV, and Louis XIII himself). Accented with hundreds of nailheads, this is truly a one-of-a-kind trunk, capable of being a statement piece.
CONDITION: Very good antique condition, with wear commensurate with being almost 400 years old. Key included, which operates the lock. Minor wear to the interior lining, which is most likely not original. Very light nicks, rubs, and age separations. Minor losses with a minimal amount of missing nailheads.
