Hand-carved circa 1900, the original finish of this French bibliothèque has been scraped and stripped, leaving the pine wood with a pleasing beige hue. Standing more than 10 feet tall, the grand storage piece has elements of a vitrine and a buffet deux corps.
Three tall doors with glass panes front the rectilinear upper section, allowing five full-length shelves to be displayed. Six smaller doors carved with recessed rectangular panels are aligned beneath a series of belt drawers, forming the elongated lower section. The doors open to reveal three segmented compartments, each with a single shelf. Our scraped pine storage piece would make a stately edition to a library as a bibliothèque or a living room as a vitrine or buffet deux corps.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Minor age separations, with light nicks and rubs. The finish has been scraped and stripped more recently. Light stains to the top of the lower section.
