Although alms basins were used in churches to gather offerings for the poor, later dishes, such as this large gilded brass one from the 1800s, were usually used decoratively in a secular manner. Adorned with a repeating ring of “ermine”, this alms dish is in the style of a Nuremburg plate, as evidenced by the repousse cartouche of lobes arranged in a pinwheel fashion around a central circle.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Minor scratches and rubs with light cavitations. Holes from previous installation(s). Rigged for hanging purposes.
