Description

Rustic European dining tables, such as this magnificent, bleached French one, are styled after Medieval monastery, or refectory, eating surfaces. Hand-carved in oak during the late 1800s, this table features a massive seven inch thick stretcher held in place by robust wedge pins. The table, which has a warm, light golden hue, exudes character, as evidence by deep graining, visible joinery, undulations, and knotholes. A pair of baluster form trestles with scrolled feet work with the single beam stretcher to provide stability to the three inch thick top. Proportioned for a larger gathering, our oak beam stretcher dining table can fit 8-10 adults comfortably.

CONDITION: Good antique condition. Old restoration (unseen) to the top, with more recent fills, performed at the same time as the bleaching of the entire table. Commensurate age separations, mostly seen on the stretcher and the feet. Very light nicks. The top has inherent undulations, while the stretcher and legs have some character-defining knotholes.
