Artists of the European School in the 1800s were known for their technical mastery, and this still life painting of a garden scene is no exception. The subject of the brightly colored painting is a winged cupid sitting on a stone pedestal, playing an aulos. A flowering vine runs across his leg, drawing the viewer’s eye to the overturned cornucopia on the ground that was filled with numerous grape varietals, nuts, melons, apples, and pomegranates. In front of the Cupid is a large vase with a brilliant bouquet of yellow, pink, blue, and red flowers.
CONDITION: Good antique condition. Minor losses to giltwood frame, with some small touchups. Evidence of a restoration to the canvas, which has some light nicks. Rigged for hanging.
